IN: Making Black History

Armani Williams is making black history! This determined 20-year-old from Detroit was breaking records from an early age. He started out racing go-karts when he was just 8 years old, but quickly graduated to professional vehicle racing. When he was just 15 years old he broke records by becoming the highest finishing African American in a series race and the highest finishing African American in the series championship. Now, he is officially the first NASCAR driver with Autism. Being diagnosed with spectrum autism at the age of 2, and considered non-verbal. Autism is characteristically marked by difficulty focusing on and processing different stimuli and tasks simultaneously, in addition to complications with communication. These are two key skills for any race car driver. So, when Armani began dreaming of becoming a professional NASCAR driver, many around believed it would be impossible. But Armani didn’t accept impossible, and now uses his rising fame as a platform for autism awareness and research.
